A Journey Through Endless Anger: Welcome to the Monsters Within
Ever stumble upon a book that leaves you utterly speechless? Well, that’s exactly what Endless Anger (Monsters Within, #1) by Sav Miller did for me. It’s a fantastic return to the mesmerizing universe I adore, and with each page, I found myself enthralled yet again. From the moment I received an e-ARC through NetGalley, I couldn’t contain my excitement—this book has been years in the making, and let me tell you, it does not disappoint!
Endless Anger carries the weight of legacy, delving into the lives of Asher Anderson and Lucy Wolfe, children of beloved characters from the previous series. You don’t need to have read those to appreciate the depth of the world Sav has spun, but trust me, it heightens the experience significantly. I felt like a kid again, watching old family friends cope with new challenges and relationships, all while threading together their pasts and presents.
Sav’s writing style is rich and immersive. The world-building is layered, creating an atmosphere that pulls you in like a warm hug. Every scene is meticulously crafted—right from the eerie vibes of Avernia College, an institution steeped in family secrets, to the moments shared between our main characters. It’s as if I were living alongside Asher and Lucy, feeling their joy, heartache, and everything in between.
What struck me most were the characters themselves. Asher and Lucy embody the complexity of young love: the misunderstandings, the fiery passion, the undeniable bond. Their childhood friendship takes an unexpected turn when misunderstandings lead to a rift, setting the stage for a unique “childhood friends to lovers” trope. It’s clear from the start that Asher is smitten with Lucy, and his determination to mend their broken bond adds a delicious layer of obsession that I found immensely compelling.
One of my favorite elements was the flashbacks to their teenage years, which added depth not just to Asher and Lucy, but to their world as a whole. It’s a reflection of how our past shapes our present, and I couldn’t help but root for them even harder with every glance back. The way Sav intertwines the past and present is masterful!
And then there are the side characters, particularly Aurora and the effervescent Foxe. I’m still gushing about every witty line from Foxe—his charm and humor shine brightly in a narrative that occasionally dives into darker themes. “[I’m but a simple goldfish… If you don’t pay enough attention to me, I’ll die,” he quips, and my heart melted a little. Protect this golden retriever of a character at all costs!
Yet, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Toward the end, a few chapters struck a chord with me, bringing me to tears. The emotional weight Sav has woven into this narrative is profound; it challenges and broadens the traditional boundaries of a YA romance, leaving a lasting impression.
If you’re a fan of dark academia, enemies to lovers, or family curses, this book is tailor-made for you! It’s a blend of spice, heartfelt moments, and emotional depth that is hard to forget. I left feeling exhilarated, yet incomplete—an experience I crave to revisit as soon as the next installment arrives. Trust me, you’ll want to be part of this journey, especially with characters like Foxe and the promise of more adventures on the horizon. So, grab your copy and prepare for an unforgettable ride through the Monsters Within.
